Orange County students going high-tech ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) – On Tuesday, voters will go to the polls to vote on a half-cent sales tax in Orange County that will go to the schools.Fox 35 found out the proposal includes either a laptop or a tablet for each one of the more than 190 thousand students in Orange County schools.Lost in all the talk about renovated and reconstructed schools is the third part of what Orange County Schools wants a half penny sales tax for: technology. The Orange County School District says it has $237 million worth of new technology needs.The sales tax push is creating some confusion for voters like Doug Head, Chairman of County Watch.”What exactly are we getting and where is the detail in the plan?” Head asked.Included in the technology list is what Orange County Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Barbara Jenkins is calling “devices.” These could be laptops, iPads, or something similar, but the school district will not exactly say what.”We have a research project that is very clear on some of those answers.
