Osun Election: Defeated LP candidate blames APC, PDP for ‘confusing’ supporters ==================== The Labour Party, LP, candidate in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Osun State, Fatai Akinbade, has attributed his defeat at the polls to his opponents’ tactics of “confusing” his supporters. Mr. Akinbade came a distant third in the election polling 8,898 votes, behind Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, and Iyiola Omisore, of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, who emerged winner and runner up respectively. In a statement announcing his concession of defeat, Sunday, Mr. Akinbade lamented the election was characterized by financial inducement of the electorates. He also said his opponents’ tactics led to his defeat. “By and large, the whole process was fair and I congratulate the winner, Governor Rauf Aregbesola,” Mr. Akinbade said in the statement signed by Kayode Oladeji, his Director of Media. “In every contest, there must be a winner. However, I must let us know that my head remains unbowed because I don’t regret anything. Some lessons have been learnt and I thank my supporters for their doggedness. “Imagine the Director General of Arebesola Campaign Organisation, Professor Sola Adeyeye and Diran Odeyemi of the PDP, claiming separately on the social media on the morning of the election that I directed my supporters to vote Aregbesola and Omisore. “This confused my supporters across the state who bombarded me with calls. This went viral and caused confusion,” Mr. Akinbade said. On Saturday evening, with results from the various polling units across the state showing the APC and PDP in early lead among the 20 political parties who participated in the election, Mr. Akinbade had issued a short statement advising the candidates of both parties to concede defeat to him. The LP candidate also raised an alarm that the two parties had devised a means to confuse his supporters. “The APC through one Adabanija and the PDP through Diran Odeyemi had claimed separately on their facebook accounts that Akinbade had teamed up with their cursed parties,” Mr. Akinbade had said. “The question is: how many parties will Akinbade merge with at the same time? Anyway, we at the Labour Party know that both the APC and PDP are already seeing defeat that is why they are dropping Akinbade’s name all over the place but they have failed. “The people of our dear state are wiser and have rejected the APC and the PDP. It is Labour Party they want,” Mr. Akinbade had added. Via:-MR INTEGRITY
