Osun poll: APC thugs dressed in PDP attire plan to disrupt tribunal proceedings —PDP •Don’t re-enact Ekiti scenario —APC IntrigueS characterising the outcome of the August 9, 2014 governorship poll in Osun State assumed a new trend on Saturday, when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of perfecting plans to disrupt the election petition tribunal’s proceedings scheduled to continue early next week with the use of political thugs. The thugs, PDP alleged, would disguise as its members by donning attires associated with it, warning that it was the APC’s grand design to foment trouble in the state. The party argued that the game plan of the APC, whose victory is being challenged at the tribunal, is to create a false impression and bad image for the PDP, saying it got wind of the plot and had to alert the public about the development before the APC hatched its plot. But the APC’s Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy in the state, Mr Kunle Oyatomi, reacted to the PDP’s allegation, saying “the PDP are only accusing our party of what they intend to do. “They should be told pointedly not to repeat or re-create Ekiti State scenario here in Osun. What do we stand to gain by planning to disrupt the proceedings at the election tribunal?”, he asserted. In a press statement issued by the PDP chairman in Osun State, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, the party contended that “the plan by the APC thugs to storm the sitting of the election petition tribunal in our party’s T-shirts is real”, pointing out that “there is a need for security agencies to closely monitor movements in and out of the state High Court where the tribunal usually holds its proceedings.” Already, witnesses were being front-loaded by the candidate of the APC, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, with the last week’s signing of necessary papers at the venue of the tribunal sitting in a bid to counter the petition filed by the standard bearer of the PDP, Senator Iyiola Omisore. A source within the PDP, in a text message sent to newsmen in Osogbo on Saturday, alleged that the plan to disrupt sitting of the tribunal was coordinated at a meeting held late Friday night at the Government House, Okefia, Osogbo. However, Oyatomi maintained that the “APC is a party that upholds discipline and cherishes decorum. They are trying to accuse others of their mischievous intention or plan. But it is imperative for them not to import their ignoble act in Ekiti to Osun. This is a state of virtue that abhors such uncivil deeds.”
