Our Conscience Tells Us That God Exists - God has also revealed Himself through the spirit, or mind, of humanity called Conscience. God calls people to goodness through conscience. Conscience is the most secret core and sanctuary of a person, within which the person is aware of the voice of God. All societies have a certain moral code built into them in which stealing, lying, murder, and such are universally condemned. Humanitys sense of right and wrong testifies to Gods existence. The Apostle Paul wrote: “For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things contained in the law, these although not having the law are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them” (Romans 2:14,15). The revelation through conscience gives people some understanding of God, but it does not give them the detailed knowledge that is necessary for salvation. Such knowledge comes through the more specific revelation God has made through his spoken and written Word (1 Cor 1:21). The human conscience is essential to God’s plan for the human race. Through conscience, God planned to call people into ever deeper relationship with their Creator, to guide people so that they would always do what loved towards God and others, to guide people so that they would always do what is good.
