"Our Nation is at risk. Our once unchallenged preeminence in commerce, industry, science, and technological innovation is being overtaken by competitors throughout the world...We report to the American people that ... the educational foundations of our society are presently being eroded by a rising tide of mediocrity that threatens our very future as a nation and a people." ( National Commission on Excellence in Education, 1983, p. 5) No more brilliant thing have I read in all of my tertiary education. What a mockery we have become. We have sold our souls to the corporate machine. We have allowed Rockefeller, Carnegie, and the others to mask in the guise of philanthropism an educational system that would have us all bred cogs in a machine of extortion. I do not cite capitalism for the faults found therein. I cite the ignorance and stupidity of the masses, for allowing themselves raped and played fools. God damn this world, if the public no longer has the power, motivation, or sentience to realize what a disgusting sham our society has become. How I yearn for the days of antiquity, for the days of beauty, and for the days of the golden age which we have fallen so far from.
