Our educational system still teaches primarily by rod and rote. Rather than teaching children to learn to themselves, the typical educational system teaches contents that the child is required to swallow whole (the rote) and then regurgitate on test (the rod) that are the so-called criteria of learning. The students thus remain blind to their own inner process of learning and discovery-a process which is essential if they are to become capable of any form of creativity. It is this inner blindness that leads to (so-called) mental illness and psychological maladjusment wherein the individual does not know how to recognize, reinforce and integrate the new psychological growth that is being spontaneously generated from within. From this perspective the essence of psychotherapy is to fascilitate the understanding of the growth process so that people can solve their own problem -Milton Erickson, The February Man-
