Our hands are not clean, and until we try Kissinger and so many others for war crimes and crimes against humanity, I cannot walk this world with undue pride in my country. Yes we do great things. We also do awful things, and too many of us here know nothing about it. Its by design, as this violent coup against a popularly elected president of another country for our imperial gains certainly isnt taught in anyones history classes in the U.S.A. Chile was my first destination, to go kayaking, after I graduated college and could afford a vacation out of country. I knew none of this history, but I learned. Walking the streets of Santiago, bullet ridden walls have been left in their damaged state from when this coup occurred. People there were friendly to me, but they had every right not to be. I left a lot more aware of the abuses we carry out under the guise of freedom and Democracy.
