Our healthcare system is not for sale: NDP MPP French QUEEN’S PARK – Oshawa MPP Jennifer French addressed a crowd of thousands of healthcare workers rallying at Queen’s Park today to raise awareness about the Liberal government’s plans to cut local hospital services and contract them out to private clinics. “The Liberal government tells us that they’re committed to public healthcare,” said French, “but we start to question their words when their actions show that they are privatizing our system at every chance they get.” French said that when services are contracted out to private clinics, it undermines our public, single-tiered healthcare. “We should be cracking down on private clinics, not expanding their services,” said French. “We should be supporting our hospitals, not shutting their doors; and we should be closing the loopholes in our Canada Health Act, not looking for new ones at every turn.” The crowd of nurses, health professionals, patients, doctors and support staff came to Queen’s Park from across the province to show their concerns about the governments actions. “We’re here today to remind the government that our healthcare system is not for sale, said French. We know how high the stakes are in this fight, and we know that the size of your bank account does not dictate the value of your life, and putting a price-tag on our healthcare is doing just that. The rally was hosted by the Ontario Health Coalition and was followed by a march down ‘Hospital Row’.
