Our overburdened police are writing tickets for riding bicycles on sidewalks in OB. The only place it IS illegal and posted is Newport ave. We know someone who was ticketed in front of their house. Here is a short version of law Bicycle riding allowed on sidewalks, except in business districts: Oceanside, Encinitas, San Diego, National City, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, Lemon Grove, Santee, and unincorporated San Diego County. The actual San Diego Municipal code #84.09 . Also YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SHOW YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE to the police when riding a bicycle. They will ask for it even demand it but you are not operating a motor vehicle. The reason NOT to yield your license is any ticket you get now goes on you driving record. You do not need a driving license to ride a bicycle.
