Our school supply drive with DCCCA for area foster children is in full swing! Many families are donating supplies and Lawrence First Naz is collecting supplies instead of offering during their VBS this week. They have set a goal of trying to fill 30 backpacks to donate. We will continue to collect supplies through August 10 and then we will put everything together and deliver it to DCCCA. Please remember that children in foster care often come to their temporary homes unable to take their belongings with them. Everything is new and unfamiliar; their home, family, neighborhood, school, friends, church. Everything. The family providing their home receives a small stipend to care for these children and the extra burden of school supplies can be hard to do. If kids are removed from their home during the school year, they almost never get to pack up their supplies and take with them, leaving them starting a new school with nothing but what the school may have left over. This is a really important collection drive for some really important kids. Kids who need and deserve to feel special and taken care of.
