Our sons ARE suffering. And their agony is compounded each time - TopicsExpress

Our sons ARE suffering. And their agony is compounded each time we, their fathers, buy into the cancerous falsehood that our major contribution is to toughen them up through the liberal provision of verbal and physical discipline. Nothing could be further from the truth. What, then, are we to do? What do they need from us? They need fathers who understand that their primary obligation is to nurture the development of the emotional vocabulary of their sons. They need fathers who grasp that this vocabulary isnt at odds with masculinity. They need fathers who model a masculinity that refuses to deify rage, violence, conquest, intimidation and homoantagonism as the default settings that define authentic manhood. They need fathers who are unafraid of tears. Can we give this to our sons?
