Our story is not like most others. Our daughter was born - TopicsExpress

Our story is not like most others. Our daughter was born 1/23/1998. Abbie has always been a very healthy, active child. This past summer she began to mention occasional chest pain. But she is not one to complain, so we did not realize how much she was hurting. One Sunday afternoon in August, she began to complain, so we made an appointment to see her nurse practitioner just to check things out. She performed an EKG and immediately sent her to a cardiologist. Within a few days, she was scheduled for a CT and we were told we should have the results in a few days. Within hours of the CT, we were at Blair E. Batson discussing open heart surgery. Abbie was born with coronary artery stenosis but had never showed any symptoms. I had no idea at the time what that meant, but by the time we left the hospital that day, all of our questions had been answered. The childrens heart center has an amazing team who went above and beyond to explain everything so thoroughly. Abbie had surgery on 8/18/2014 and spent two nights in the PCICU and then moved upstairs for three more nights. She was back at school two weeks later and back to dancing in six weeks. She will even be back on the tennis courts this month. These last few months have been a very special time for a family. We have seen God at work. Thank you for what you do. I couldnt even begin to imagine being told my daughter needed this surgery and then being told we would have to travel to another state to have it done. Our family has been blessed by the heart He has given you.
