Our very own Dr. Jim Morris has been named a Fellow of the Society of Wetland Scientists! Fellowship is the highest recognition of membership bestowed by the Society. The award was presented June 4 at the SWS annual meeting in Duluth, Minnesota. The Fellows Award Subcommittee of SWS made the following evaluation "Dr. James Morris’ depth of knowledge across many disciplines, including ecology, plant physiology, and biogeochemical processes, combined with his quantitative skills and interpretation, has led to major contributions to coastal ecology in many areas. His 1991 paper on atmospheric deposition of nitrogen was ground-breaking. His early work with cohort models stimulated the development of many new models and shaped the way that modelers think about wetland dynamics. His Marsh Elevation Model is one of the more widely used numerical models today. In short, Dr. Morris has been a major contributor to the development of wetland ecology over the last 30 years. The mission of the Society of Wetland Scientists is to promote understanding, scientifically based management, and sustainable use of wetlands.
