Our work here at the LA Food Policy Council has been greatly influenced and inspired by the advocacy and leadership of Lark Galloway-GIlliam, who passed away this past December. As the Executive Director of one of our partner organizations, Community Health Councils (CHC), she pioneered social, racial and environmental justice campaigns in South Los Angeles for over a decade. She was a tenacious, compelling and motivating leader, and were grateful for the powerful legacy of social change work she leaves behind. On behalf of low-income communities across LA, CHC continues to tackle issues spanning from food deserts to fracking. We remain steadfast in our commitment to social and racial equity in our food system with gratitude to her pioneering work. If you would like to commemorate the life and accomplishments of Lark, please join Community Health Councils at a public memorial service this Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 am, at the Agape International Spiritual Center (5700 Buckingham Parkway, Culver City, VA 90230).
