Over a couple of days i had a chance to visit around 3 to 4 medical colleges(out of 56 private and 12 govt medicals) here!! Each one of them had humungous buildings, collosal hostels, the roads with shiny ashphalts and an ambience that makes u feel elsewhere!! Mammoth campuses, American arcitecture, airconditioned hostels,OTs equipped with Phillux, Simeon and what not.. But everytime my eyes relished this futuristic facade, i had an epiphany, everytime my feet trod those shiny ashphalts i had this constant feeling taking form in my soul ,of being fortunate to have been a part of our old Dhaka Medical College and Hospital(DMCH).. With its students who compete 58000 others to enroll themselves in, with a galaxy of Professors each of whom has 100s of publications and contributions to medical science, with its over 2500 beds toiling their way down for 70 years serving tens of thousands of patients each week free of cost, with the students burning the oil of both their lamps and eyes to score all 10 places in evry Professional exam, with the interns treating patients and operating on them better than the Professors wld do elsewhere, with every medical intervention available, with the hustle bustle and noise, with the happy faces of the poor after getting the best treatment and bad food for free, with the broken roads and an old campus, with its mosquitoes and an untidy canteen, with a shiny 600 bed unit dedicated solely to the Department of Medicine, with the corridoors filled with patients inspite of 2500 beds, with its being called the BEST, with the likes of Prof. Quazi Deen Muhammad, Prof. Azizul Kahar, Prof Margoob Hussain, Prof Rubaid Amin, with a life, with a hope, with me, with my friends... Our old DMCH made me feel proud, to be a DMCian!!!!!!
