Over the last thirteen year’s Oliver’s shows have always stood out. In fact the finest show I have seen at House on fire was a mid-week night when Oliver first came to House on fire & Swaziland. The odds were against us, it was a Wednesday night the only night he & the Black spirits were available, and to make matter worse it was raining cats & dogs. At 8.30pm no one had arrived and the inevitable panic had set in. Then miraculously people started arriving, appearing out of the sheets of rain. An hour later the venue and it’s ramparts were heaving with a damp collective who had come out to experience one of Africa’s finest performers. When Oliver eventually got onto the stage that night with the sound rain hitting the tin roof he said ,”Rain is life” ,and proceeded into what I can only describe as the most special night I have experienced in all my thirteen years at Washumkhukhu!!.
