Over the past couple of years, I have spent countless days and nights waking up and looking around, my heart immediately sinking, realizing this nightmare was very real. There are even days now where I wake up in a great mood and roll over to see Dahlias beautiful face, and then I look down and see her port, or rub her head and feel her shunts. I couldnt wake up from this seemingly never ending nightmare More recently, though, I have been waking up and looking for signs that this isnt a dream... an exciting and hopeful dream. 2015 is off to an amazing, and almost unbelievable, start. As you all know, Mark Stopa decided to give a house away this year, and the kids and I were chosen to be the recipients. I would find in the coming days that there really were no strings attached, this was actually happening. There really are people in this world who would reach out to help a stranger in such an immense way. Becky Slocum reached out to Mark after seeing his story, and offered to give her commission back to us in order to help cover the costs of warranty, insurance, etc. She would be working for free and was so happy to be able to do this. Anyone who knows me well knows that I was probably not the easiest client she ever had. But she was never anything but overjoyed to help in any way she could. My sister and my mom did a majority of the house hunting for me, as I was out of town bombarded with delegation hearings and meetings as the 2015 legislative session approaches. We even had an offer from Renees aunt (who is a realtor) to help in Hernando County if needed, accompanied by a simple but tear-jerking message, Please tell her I will never forget what she did for my husband. This world really is full of beautiful people. The second house I went inside in person to see was the one, and I knew it right away. In fact, its almost an updated version of the home were in now with a bigger yard that backs up to woods that wont be built on (a huge plus!). After hearing the story of the home giveaway, the investor/ owner of this house conceded and ensured we could get into our perfect home. Then the inspector, Dave Thompson, decided that he would take payment on a whenever-I-could-pay basis! Everything happened so fast, within just a couple of days... but everyone did everything they could to get this done for us; and, if all goes as planned, we will be closing tomorrow afternoon! I have been stressed about the repairs on this rental as well as keeping my word on paying through February in the event that a renter could not be established (he did not list it as I was supposed to be here through February). As I said yesterday, Maleahs husband Chad, who must be a master carpenter, made all of the repairs to the house. This was a HUGE weight off of my shoulders! Utility, transfer, and rent bills, etc. were still a looming worry, though... Then I remembered that there were still donations coming in from Amy and her husband, as well as her cousin and brother (they have done so much for us, now and in the past, I could never begin to describe my gratitude!). So I spoke to Patrick of the Peyton Wright Foundation (named in honor of his own daughter, who passed away from brain cancer... I am in awe at her parents dedication and ability to keep going and doing the good that theyre doing). He happily agreed to receive the donations in on our behalf and pay these bills for us! We also just received 3 tickets to Legoland from Sunshine in the mail! So, Lord: if this is a dream, please dont wake me!
