Over the years I have given a lot of speeches. For the most part the experience has been enjoyable but sometimes things just dont go the way you would hope. There was the time I was wrapping up a speech in Strongsville in a room meant to hold about 175 people they had crammed well over two-hundred. in fact they had to move the podium back to near the wall and I had rows of people sitting directly in front of me…so close i could have reached out and touched them. As I closed my talk, I picked up a glass of ice water that was on the podium and turned to edge my way out of the room when I tripped over some wires on the floor. As I went down the glass of ice water went flying into the air, soaking people in the first, second and third rows. In my fall I took down the public address system, yanking the microphone off the podium and the speakers off the walls behind me. The fall knocked the wind out of me and as i was lying there on my back, I opened my eyes finding a little blonde girl with large black horn-rim glasses peering into my face. “I’m a girl-scout” she said, “can i help you? I’ll get a merit badge if i do.”
