Over the years, Ive had some pretty shitty experiences with terrible promoters, bookers, and venue owners. For example, Ive been underpaid because the owners wife didnt like a particular joke I did... Ive been stiffed because ticket sales werent what we expected... Ive agreed to perform for a certain price only to have the owner offer to pay me half in cash & half in bottles of liquor... Ive been blamed for low turnouts when they did absolutely no advertising... Ive been blamed for rowdy crowds when the drunk owner would walk onstage in the middle of each comics set and heckle the comics from the back of the room... Ive shown up at venues that had no lights and/or sound equip when I was told that it would be there... Ive driven hours to get to a show only to find out that there was a scheduling mixup and they double booked a comedy show and a band for the same night.... Ive traveled out of state and shown up to a venue that completely forgot that they booked a comedy show that night... And thats just off the top of my head. Today, I get to add a new one to the list- Last night, after sending out final emails and posting on FB & Twitter to promote tonights show at Augies on 20th in Rock Island, I was unable to contact the venue or the owner. After making a dozen phone calls to as many people, I find out that the business closed. They must have felt like it was too much trouble to inform me or any other performers they booked about this minor detail... #NoBusinessLikeShowbiz
