Overcoming Obstacles Read I Corinthians 10:1-13 Encouragement for the day – “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” I Corinthians 10:13 ESV As a company officer I had to be able to instill in those in the company to be ready to overcome any obstacle in our way. Fires don’t always go as planned and often time’s companies have to adapt to the changing conditions as well as the unanticipated obstacles that would prevent you from extinguishing the fire. On one particular fire after an extensive search for the seat of the fire in a smoke filled second floor of a residential building we came up short on hose. We had to think quickly because the other company was coming down the hallway. Since the fire was a small lazy fire I was able to pick up a solid flat object and have the firefighter on the nozzle bounce the stream off of me, making a 90 degree turn, and onto the fire. We all laughed after the fire but were we were all pleased that our company was able to extinguish the fire. In the fire service you will encounter many obstacles in your Christian faith. There will be plenty of people telling you what you can and cannot do with your faith. Likewise there will be many temptations that will be in your way trying to derail your Christian testimony. It never fails, the more you try and do for God in the fire service the more trials and temptations will come your way. Have you ever had a fire go perfect? The same can be told of living out your faith in the fire service. Don’t give up. God has promised to be with us always, even to the end of the world (Matthew 28:20). The next time you meet an obstacle pray that God would help you to maintain your testimony as you find a way out. Lord, thank You for Your promises to be with me during my times of trials and temptations. Encouraging first responders to keep the faith!!
