We had a really rough week. Jack woke up vomiting on Wednesday - TopicsExpress

We had a really rough week. Jack woke up vomiting on Wednesday afternoon. So, off we went to the doctor and he started on an antibiotic. Just when we thought he was recovering, this afternoon, I noticed a bump on his cuticle that was not there last night. If he had a normal immune system, we might have waited to see how it was tomorrow; but, after a call to the Immunologist we made a trip to Methodist Pediatrics to see Dr. Liles. Jack has a paronychia-a skin infection that happens around the fingernails or toenails. The Doctor numbed the blister, which had grown larger by the time we got there and drained it. She applied an antibiotic cream designed to treat staff infections and she changed the antibiotic that he is taking so that he will be covered regardless of the type of bacteria that caused the infection. I am supposed to scrub that fingernail and soak it. She said babies get them sometimes from keeping their hands in their mouths. Jack also received a flu shot. His Immunologist recommended that he receive it because there is some thought that since his T cells are normal the vaccine may provide a little protection. Its the only vaccine they will consider administering. Ella also got her vaccine. We are on the immuno-compromised patient list. Ella was such a big girl!! She didnt cry and laid right down and took the shot in her thigh. Im so proud of these kids!! Jack is in a very good mood now.
