Overhearing all sorts of crazy racist, crackpot ideas from my employees this morning about the big white conspiracy. Within a single conversation today Ive heard everything from how the Ferguson incident was planned, to how the white media framed OJ, the government invented crack, and the white people in government set Obama up for failure. Now, this boggles the mind for a couple of reasons. First such ideas are toxic, defy reason and serve only to perpetuate the victim mentality so as to shift blame for all manner of abhorrent behavior onto some imaginary oppressor. Lets face it, there is a certain segment of the population that was just waiting for the go ahead in Ferguson. Had the verdict gone the other way, wed be hearing about celebratory looting and rioting. Secondly, if there is some big white conspiracy working to keep the black man down so that we may benefit from some perceived elevated status, why was I not informed? Am I owed retroactive benefits now because I appear to have been left out. Come on guys, do we get super secret code rings? I want so badly to join in the debate with these guys, but am reminded of my own advice. One cannot argue sensibly with a stone. At the end of the discussion, it will still be a stone that has been in no way enlightened or informed by your words. Likewise, a stone offers no wisdom of its own, nor even a credible point of view, in return.
