Overshoot is exactly the process that humanity is engaged in on the planet at the moment. It has been assumed that we would find technological fixes that would keep getting around the problem, but the updates to this study and model done a bit over a decade ago clearly show all its likely to do is delay things a decade or two. We may already have reaped the benefit of those decades. Solutions exist but huge obstacles such as constant war and conflict are drawing off critically needed resources in material and time. The thing about overshoot is that up to the critical moment, things will seem to be improving, a huge upwelling of consumption....followed by a disastrous crash. The phenomenon is observed in natural ecosystems and well understood. What isnt well understood is our insistence that we have some sort of immunity or get-out-of-jail-free card.
