O’NEILL TOLD NOT TO COVER-UP FOR ILLEGAL PAYMENT OF K50 MILLION - TopicsExpress

O’NEILL TOLD NOT TO COVER-UP FOR ILLEGAL PAYMENT OF K50 MILLION TO LR GROUP PORT MORESBY: Kandep MP and the leader of Triumph Heritage Empowerment party Don Polye has refuted a report that he did not oppose the government’s intervention into the power shortage problems in Lae and Port Moresby. Mr. Polye brushed aside a claim by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill who said the opposite. “I was vocal on the issue because the payment of K50 million to LR Group of Israel was done under dubious deals,” he said. Mr Polye clarified this after he learned that O’Neill claimed the purchase of the gas turbines for Lae and Port Moresby were the government’s deliberate intervention in the power shortage issues in the two cities and asked critics to shut up. Polye said the K50 million was paid to LR Group and not to Israeli General Electrical Corporation which supplied the two gas turbines. He said the two companies are two separate entities and they are not related. ‘’We have a PM who is telling a lot of cover up stories for the improper and illegal payment of K50 million with no trace’’ Polye said. He added O’Neill had deliberately misconstrued payment details as he has delivered K94 million to Israel General Electrical Corp which NEC approved in early 2014 for supply of 2 X 26.2 MW turbines generators for PNG Power Limited. Mr Polye said at no time NEC had approved payment of K50 million for LR Group in 2013 to supply any generators. “PNG Power’s power shortage issues in Lae and Port Moresby required urgent solutions by the shareholder (IPBC). However, PM O’Neill was directly involved in the payment of K50 million to LR Group and another payment of K94 million to Israeli General Electrical Corporation for cover-up,” he said.
