P.O.P. SHOWING FILM ‘PRESUMPTION OF GUILT’ THURSDAY! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE! On Thursday, October 30th, the People’s Organization for Progress will host a special showing of Newark native Hafiz Farid’s critically acclaimed documentary ‘Presumption of Guilt: Race, Class and Crime in America,’ as a part of their participation in ‘Mass Incarceration Resistance Month,’ at their general assembly meeting. The meeting takes place at the Abyssinian Baptist Church, 224 West Kinney Street, Newark. Doors open at 6:30pm The film was tabbed the best ‘social documentary’ at the New York Independent Film And Video Festival. It is based on the book Presumption Of Guilt by Charles Ogletree and captures the residual issues surrounding the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, who was arrested going into his own home. Professor Gates is African-American. It includes interviews with Ogletree, the late Maya Angelou, Michelle Alexander, and P.O.P. chairman Lawrence Hamm, among others.
