P.V.Narasimha Rao was not only a scholar, a linguist, a writer, a journalist, a critic, a translator and an interpreter of acknowledged merit and accomplishment, but also a man with subtle wit, humor, satire, sarcasm and repartee. He was very devastating and demolishing when he was in his elements. His “Insider” contains a lot of undercurrent of pity and self-pity. It also contains patches of polished humor, which we very rarely come across these days in politicians and administrators and even in teachers and preachers. The only man who could be compared to him to a large extent in politics is Atal Behari Vajpayee, and of course among the former Prime Ministers, Jawaharlal Nehru. But even though Jawaharlal Nehru was a scholar and a good writer, we don’t come across so many patches of humor either in his writings or in his speeches. In the present day politicians, we mostly come across bluntness, coarseness, callousness and even outright vulgarity in what they say than refined pun, fun or word-spin. It goes without saying that even to cut a joke, on one’s own self, one requires a charm of expression, which can make a reader or a listener not only ponder but also wonder. But in the present day politicians we find more use of hammer than the use of humor. P.V.N. could both be “Modern” and “Classical” in his walk, talk. He understood the needs and the necessities of both. It is for that reason that he could be homely in the company of “mass” as well as the “classes”. He could be as good with the intellectuals as with the commoners in his communication. Be at ease with both. kinige/book/Wit+and+Wisdom+of+P+V+Narasimha+Rao #Shareme if you #likeme !
