PA volunteers returned to run 2014 Boston Marathon Dixie Patterson was idly chatting with a fellow physician assistant when an explosion shook the main Boston Marathon medical tent, just past the finish line, at 2:49 p.m. last April 15. A second blast came 12 seconds later. Somehow, she knew they were bombs. With only a roll of gauze in her hand, Patterson bolted up Boylston Street, kneeling amid the blood and debris to help bind the wounds of a woman whose legs were ripped apart with bilateral open tibia-fibula fractures. “It was so quiet,” said Patterson, describing the bomb scene. “The most amazing thing to me was how quiet it was.
