PACC Association #5 Landscaping Committee Meeting Saturday, August 24, 2013 10:00 am Ed Facundo Unofficial Summary of PACC 5 Landscaping Meeting Ed Facundo Susan Siegel Alex Dunn Jim Wilson Several guests, including Danny Oberg, Joan Zalewski, Page T, Mrs. Walters and others. Ed opened meeting. He noted two members, Kevin Soyt and Ed Clemons are still north and are excused. He did call attention to the article in today’s Sun Sentinel that the Banana Spiders now appearing through the property are beneficial as mosquito eaters. First order of business was to elect a Chair. Ed was nominated and elected unanimously. Agenda 1. Association Entrance Signs-- It appears that there may be some grant money available to erect signs at each end of Oaks Lane as welcoming landmarks and to bring a touch of class. The idea met with general approval and an exploration stage was authorized. Ed will take on the task of trying to determine what monies might be available and how much the association may have to shoulder. I expressed some caution that I would hate to have to see Bldg 68 give up too much money as we may have higher priorities for landscaping improvements. Ed hopes to report back by the next meeting (September 8). 2. Committee Purpose and Mission- the Association Landscaping Committee is responsible for common areas (like the pool and cabana area), street frontage and general policy. In a discussion the committee generally agreed that: • They would like to meet regularly • Those meetings should have a walk through of the properties to evaluate and discuss the state of the grounds. • That the committee will see itself as promoting and encouraging that former mulching schedules and planting be done on time and regularly. It was mentioned that in years past mulching has been done on May 1 to preserve winter moisture and added to when summer planting were done. Fall annuals should be planted beginning October 15th. 3. Budgets. Thee was some discussion that members and building landscaping committees need to have a better idea of landscaping budgets—both for common areas (i.e. road plantings) and individual buildings. Susan Siegal said she thought she could get this done. 4. Soil Testing-- There was discussion that free soil testing could be obtained from Florida Atlantic University to analyze soil for fertility and disease. Everyone agreed this should be done. Danny Oberg agreed to do the follow up and get more details on procedure, etc. The next meeting will be Sunday, September 8th.
