PARASI: District Education Office, Nawalparasi, has reopened four private schools which were earlier shut for flouting regulations in the district. According to a source, the schools were opened yesterday in the presence of District Education Officer Tek Bahadur Thapa. A few months ago, locals had lodged several complaints at the district administration office informing about the illegally run schools which were being operated in collusion with the officials from the District Education Office in the district. Following complaints, the District Education Office had formed a five-member monitoring panel under office secretary Hem Raj Aryal. After tremendous pressure from PABSON- Nawalparasi and the school authorities, DEO Thapa had asked Chief District Officer Keshav Raj Adhikari to take initiatives to open the schools. Kshitiz Viddhyalaya Pvt Ltd, Hansagyan School, Ushadevi Model English School and Shiva Shakti English School, which were shut for not meeting the criteria for running a school, resumed fifteen days after their closure. According to Nawalparasi PABSON Vice- president Binod Kunwar, they had reopened the schools thinking about the impact on hundreds of students who would be left in the lurch in mid-session. Coordinator of the monitoring committee Hem Raj Aryal said though the schools were shut as per law, they were forced to reopen after pressure from PABSON-Nawalparasi. About 30 schools in the district are operating without license, while 34 are operating classes for higher classes while they only have licences to run lower grades, District Education Officer Thapa informed. He, however, warned the schools that they might have to close down if they do not obtain licenses by the time the new academic session starts. Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Ghimire pledged to investigate into the matter and take action against schools flouting regulations in future. There are as many as 170 legally established private schools across the country.
