PARENTS: This was sent to me today from a member of ours. I posted on my wall earlier that I had bookmarks coming for this cause and a teacher friend said, Why are you so anti-Common Core? This was my response: A) Its against the Constitution. Education is supposed to be controlled by individual states, not the federal government. B) It is directly tied to high-stakes testing which benefits no one and is detrimental to many children. Not to mention crazy expensive. C) The results of the testing are used to evaluate teachers all over the country. Research VAM. D) It is nothing but a money-making scheme for Bill Gates, Pearson, and their investors. E) There was nothing wrong with the Maine Learning Results. F) Forcing teachers to use scripted curricula undermines them as professionals and negatively impacts their teaching. G) The standards are developmentally inappropriate for young children. Asking first graders to explain their mathematical reasoning in writing is asinine. H) The standards were not developed by ANY teachers, and the two upper level educators that were involved in the final review process refused to sign off on them. I) There is no scientific evidence that states that these standards are more beneficial to students and lead to better learning, as they have not been tested. These pictures were sent after member received package in California. Please private message me with your request to distribute FREE bookmarks.
