PARENTS and GROUPS have repeatedly called for the continuation of PPSMI. These calls have been ignored deliberately as though illiterates were asking for this, and the intellects have decided otherwise. In a similar vein, calls to commence ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOLS NATIONWIDE, (https://smore/vh70-english-medium-schools) have been silenced with a baton of arrogance and blunt refusal. Are we to believe like ignorant idiots that ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOLS cannot be commenced nationwide with Std one in 2014. Like so many people, I too am beginning to believe that the Minister of Education himself is incapable of teaching Std One children. All Mission Schools have sounded the readiness. Is it difficult for about 60% of the Sekolah Kebangsaans in our country to commence English medium with Std one in 2014 and year after year progress towards the higher standards and eventually the secondary. The balance 40% can continue as Bahasa Malaysia Schools, with the vernacular schools continuing as they have done in the past. If any of the Sekolah Kebangsaans cannot commence std one in English, that is indeed A NATIONAL DISGRACE. Who are these teachers and why are they incapable of teaching Primary One in English. One would dare say that there are sufficient "lay persons" aged 50 to 60 ready to teach Std One children in English, if the need arises. These lay people can put all these trained teachers (the unemployable graduates) to shame. Also available are plenty of retired teachers who can be employed to pursuit this objective of English medium schools. We all know that the Minister of Education, who is now only ingrained with a political direction filled with stubbornness will not budge. We all know that the cabinet is silent to care for and retain own seats and want to look good as yes men to the possible successors as PM. Being in the good books is no good, and ignoring the ongoing ruins of children is a BIG SIN. It is not that PPSMI or ENGLISH MEDIUM is not possible, but a lethargic climate prevails the entire Ministry of Education. It is a big machinery and the whip has to be good and sharply focused to set right directions. 2014 can be the beginning of English medium with Primary one. If that is difficult, may we consider that education is doomed for good and is showing so already.
