PARK RANGER (1) St. Lawrence Parks Commission - Morrisburg, ON Temporary What can I expect to do in this role? • lead the park operations of the campground; including all administrative and maintenance functions. • prepare the annual work plan, identifying priorities, setting targets and co-ordinating resources to accomplish specific tasks • provide group leadership to park staff, plan manpower, schedule and assign work, monitor and audit work performance of employees and contractors for quality and maximum resource protection • train, supervise and identify performance and misconduct issues for seasonal staff and students, advising management of any issues • supervise and participate in the start up and close down of operations of the campground and be responsible to develop a seasonal cleaning and maintenance plan for the campground • maintain accessibility and functionality of campgrounds by directing regular maintenance services such as cutting grass, painting, performing repairs, cleaning park facilities, etc. • oversee the supervision, tracking and operation of retail concessions • deal with public inquiries and complaints in accordance with approved policies and procedures • oversee park enforcement functions, ensuring staff follow proper security procedures and ensure the safety of visitors and staff • respond to first aid emergencies and oversee in-house training programs for emergency procedures for all staff • oversee and coordinate the staging of all special events within your park • work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, its regulations, and the Employers occupational health and safety policies How do I qualify? Mandatory • Valid Ontario Class G drivers licence. • Training in conflict resolution and/or designation as a Provincial Offences Officer. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: • You have thorough knowledge of park operations (day-use, campground, beaches and registration). • You have knowledge of resource management practices as well as legislation applicable to park management (e.g. St. Lawrence Parks Act, Liquor Licence Act, Trespass to Property Act, Highway Traffic Act, Public Health Act). • You have knowledge of park enforcement functions, corresponding legislation and regulations to ensure staff follow proper security procedures. • You have general knowledge of tourism and natural heritage functions and operational field programs. • You have knowledge of store concessions, recreational service contracts and personal service agreements to oversee the supervision, tracking and operation of retail concessions. • You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure compliance when performing supervisory responsibilities. CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS: • You have excellent communication skills (oral and written) to prepare reports and correspondence about park operations and respond to customer service issues. • You have a personal commitment to exceptional customer service. LEADERSHIP, PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: • You possess strong management skills and an aptitude to work with all types and levels of people. • You have the ability to motivate, train and work as a team member. • You have the ability to oversee and coordinate the staging of all special events. • You have the ability to maintain the accessibility and functionality of the campground by providing direction on maintenance services, including assisting with the care and maintenance of park vehicles and equipment and ensuring their safe operation. JUDGEMENT AND DECISION-MAKING SKILLS: • You have strong judgement and decision-making skills to ensure compliance to park regulations, resolve complaints and recognize dangerous situations and determine the appropriate course of action. • You have the ability to plan, develop and lead park operations by identifying priorities, setting targets, determining objectives and coordinating resources. ADMINISTRATIVE AND COMPUTER SKILLS: • You have knowledge of computer programs/software and administrative procedures to manage the daily operations of the park.
