PATIENTS IN LAGOS, KATSINA BEG DOCTORS TO STOP STRIKE Patients receiving treatment at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja yesterday appealed to the Resident doctors to find alternative way of resolving their grievances with the government instead of strike actions. A cross section of patients who spoke with our correspondent at LASUTH pleaded with the striking doctors to consider the health condition of the common people. A patient, Mrs. Florence Uzor who came for the result of a laboratory test she had done earlier said she could not see the doctor as required due to the strike. She said the doctors should note that many top government officials do not care about having an effective system in the country because they have access to travel abroad for better services. Another patient who simply identified himself as Ben queried the stoppage of services at 12 pm by health workers. He said an effective health service system should be accessible at all time. One of the resident doctors who pleaded anonymity said the LASUTH doctors were still meeting to decide when to join the strike fully. The Chairman of the Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA Dr. Francis Faduyile said it is not good for the government to owe doctors arrears for four months. In Katsina, patients complained they were “at the receiving end” of the government and doctors face-off. Alhaji Jamilu Isa Danmusa, a patient told Daily Trust at the Federal Medical Center, Katsina that he was at the hospital for physiotherapy but could not get treated because of the strike. Our correspondent reports that doctors in state owned hospitals did not join the strike as normal activities were observed to be going on. #Dailytrust
