PAUL QUINNCOLLEGE ANNOUNCES “VOICES THAT MATTER” IN PARTNERSHIP WITH DUPREE MILLER & ASSOCIATES DALLAS – Sept. 9, 2014 – Paul Quinn College is pleased to announce its new speakers series “Voices That Matter” presented by Dupree Miller & Associates, the innovative Dallas-based media agency that represents an international list of bestselling authors, future shapers, world architects and literary luminaries. Dupree Miller & Associates has joined Paul Quinn College to invite a life-changing line-up to fill the slate of dates for the “Voices” series. The season kicks off at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 15, with M.K. Asante, a bestselling author, award-winning filmmaker, hip-hop artist, and tenured college professor who CNN called “a master storyteller and major creative force” and Essence magazine dubbed “the voice of a new generation.” He is the author of Buck, a coming of age memoir that earned praise from the late legendary author and poet Maya Angelou. Other powerful speakers set to pick up the “Voices” microphone this season are Sarah Jakes, daughter of Bishop T.D. Jakes of The Potter’s House, and a writer and media personality in her own right; Alison Levine, an adventurer, explorer and mountaineer who has climbed the highest peak on every continent, served as the team captain of the first American Women’s Everest Expedition, and made history in January 2008 as the first American to complete a 600-mile traverse from west Antarctica to the South Pole following the route of legendary explorer Reinhold Messner; Pat Smith, wife of Emmitt Smith and founder and chief executive officer of Treasure You and president of Pat & Emmitt Smith Charities; Rameel Mitchel of Microsoft is a believer in the power of technology to shape the world and transform lives; and Hattie Hill, chief executive officer of Hattie Hill Enterprises, Inc., which provides leadership development for Fortune 500 companies and major organizations throughout North America and 51 countries, including McDonald’s, Frito-Lay, Aramark and Compass; and Ricky Texada, who with his wife, Cyd, serves as pastor of Covenant Church in Colleyville, Texas, one of the four Covenant Church campuses in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. A list of speakers and dates is included with this release. The goal of “Voices” is to provide authors, poets, entrepreneurs and change agents a platform to bring their messages of innovation, transformation and perseverance to an audience of students, community activists, elected officials, business leaders and tastemakers. “Voices represents the continuation of our efforts to enrichen the cultural opportunities for the families in all parts of Dallas County,” said Paul Quinn College President Michael Sorrell, “Paul Quinn College is blessed to have a partner like Jan Miller and Dupree Miller who recognize the importance of us succeeding in this goal.” It is an honor and privilege to participate in developing a significant lecture series,” said Jan Miller, “Paul Quinn College is the best kept secret, and we want the world to know.
