PAULS EPCOT ... AND WALT THE DREAMER! Was in a hurry to pick up prescriptions for the family, and wanted to post a photo of Walts EPCOT really quick. My son (also named Paul ... the IVth) saw the contact sheet that I pulled up from the DHI Database, and so I asked him which of the dozen or so photos I should post. This was his choice. Walts Utopian City! I was ready to move in over twenty years ago when I sat at the dining room table with Marvin Davis, Marjorie Davis and Lucille Ryman Carroll, and listened to Marvin wax rhapsodic about Walts City and how everything would work ... all in GREAT detail. Marjorie would chime in on occasion, and what I remember most is she said, Yes, I had my bags packed. I also remember my heart dropping when Marvin told me about the time he was told to stop dreaming, Walts dead. If Walt had only had ten more years, he would have pulled it off!! Yes, I know I am the voice of total optimism on this issue (always have been, even with Diane when Id argue with her when she said that she thought that her dad, once he discovered all of the red tape involved with his dream, would have become so frustrated and given up! ... my argument to her was that it was this very red tape issue that partially inspired him to want to do EPCOT). Ive always been the dreamer historian--used to say Im so optimistic that Id go after Moby Dick in a row boat and take the Tartar Sauce with me!! So let me state emphatically (having spent more than have my life researching and delving into Walt Disneys history!) that with ten more years (or fifteen for a sure thing) Walt Disney would have figured it out and would have got it done! Yes, there would be growing pains (as there was with Disneyland), but he knew that and he would learn from it. But it would have become a reality, I know that with every fiber of my being! Wed all be reading this post from the comfort of our own little homes in our own little EPCOTs. Dreamers keep the world alive!! Look at Walts impact in just the years he had. Enjoy!
