PCL FALL RECAP WEEK 3 Sets In The City Shuts Down BallBusters No Drama Shoots Down Flying Aces The same night the Giants stole the World Series, PCL Fall team tennis saw its own tennis dynasty maintain its stranglehold on the league. For the first time, still-unbeaten No Drama was outscored by another team when Sets In The City put up 67 against the BallBusters. No Drama, however, still won their matchup over the Flying Aces by 11 games, and increased their lead over the now second-place Sets In The City to 38 games – with three weeks to go. The Flying Aces, captained by Christina Bennett/Terry Keene, came the closest of any team this season to beating No Drama, and still lost by double digits. The nights winner, Sets in the City, won 4 of 6 lines, with BallBusters Christy Flesvig/Jason Bobb notching a 7-5, 6-4 score in the 5.0 round. Citys Michelle Schieberl/Bob Ampe took the 4.5 line 6-4, 6-3; and the 4.0 line was split with Busters Barbara Schafer/Peter Smith winning 12-8, and Citys Hillie Barouti/Casey Vose scoring 13-6. At 3.5, City won both lines thanks to their captains, Nichole Story/Marty McClintock winning 12-7; and Nonnie Silva/James Borba adding a 13-10 tally. Meanwhile, the Flying Aces were doing their best to strafe front-runners No Drama, but could only slow them down. At 5.0, No Dramas Natalie Lascelles/captain Charles Schredder won 12-11after a 6-7, 6-3 score was added to their third-set tiebreaker loss, meaning No Drama won with a 12-11 score. At 4.5, Dramas Monique Palipchak/Darren Pike won a yawner 12-2. At 4.0, No Dramas captain Maria Tettman/John Thompson had a more difficult time with a 6-4, 6-4 victory; and teammates Jana Echevarria/Frank Martell added a 12-4 drubbing. Flying Aces Christine Lambson/John Gurule won their 3.5 line 13-5; and a 9-9 tie score was the result when SamanthaWang/Peter Hagerman from No Drama faced off with Aces Jeannie Hidey/Oliver Matar. Halfway through the season, there is a battle for second place between Sets In The City with 165 and Flying Aces with 160. It is mathematically possible for either of them to overtake No Drama… and put that dynasty rumor to rest.
