PDP under illusion to take over Osun —Aregbesola •No amount of rabble-rousing can save you from defeat —PDP Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday, in Osogbo, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state was living under illusion over its ambition to take over the state in the August 9 governorship election. He said the party, which held sway for seven and a half years before his administration came on board, failed to address socio-economic and educational sector challenges in the state, thus aggravating the woes of the citizenry. Speaking at a two-day economic summit for stakeholders in the state, tagged “Crux of economic developmental master plan,” Aregbesola argued that “charlatans cannot hide under any figure to masquerade their worth and value,” stressing that the PDP must be day-dreaming to win or record any victory in the forthcoming poll. According to him, “they are there for seven and a half years and failed woefully. Even the best among them was driven out or removed. A single man declared that he is richer than the state and to him, that is the passport to the seat of power. It is an insult. Where did he get the money?” In a swift reaction, the publicity secretary of the PDP in the state, Mr Bola Ajao, in a text message to the Nigerian Tribune, affirmed that “if Aregbesola does not know, he must be told in practical terms that his time is up in Osun. It is the turn of Senator Iyiola Omisore to come to the much-needed rescue.” “Osun voting public are very enlightened and sophisticated. No amount of rabble-rousing braggadocio can save Aregbesola from the imminent defeat awaiting him at the poll. You cannot stop a moving train. Omisore as governor of Osun State is a God’s own project whose time is now,” he further stated. However, while defending the drop in the state’s rating from 14th position to 23rd in the latest West African School Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Aregbesola maintained that the development was the aftermath of sheer neglect and abandonment suffered by the educational sector under the PDP government, saying that “any student in the state who fails in subsequent examination must examine him or herself.”
