PERFECT IN CHRIST Perfection cannot be attained through Moses’ law (which means by the good deeds), nor through the Levitical priesthood (which means by our gifts, offerings and sacrifices). « If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron? » (Hebrews 7:11) Jesus Christ coming and his nomination as priest after a priesthood order superior and different from the Levitical one, mean a change of priesthood and consequently a change of the law. « For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law. » (Hebrews 7:12) That change of the Law has been made because it was unable to bring the people to perfection. « The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. » (Hebrews 7:18-19) But if perfection could not have been attained through the Levitical priesthood or by the law, it is now accessible through Jesus Christ (which means by faith). « For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are been made holy. » (Hebrews 10:14) « We have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. » (Hebrews 10:10) « God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood – to be received by faith. » (Romans 3:25) Thus, those who have been made holy through the blood of Jesus Christ once for all are perfect forever.
