PERFORMING & REGRESSING THE DEADLIFT TO YOUR CLIENTS FITNESS LEVELS The deadlift is probably, no DEFINITELY, the best exercise your clients should be doing at least 1X per week. A proper straight bar deadlift will start with your heels close to the bar so that when you go down to grab the bar, your shins will touch the bar. Once youve grabbed the bar, the next step is pulling your shoulder blades back and down as you lead with your chest. With your core engaged, shoulders back & down and your chin slightly tucked, take a HUGE breath and fill your lungs with air ... Now its time to pull the bar from the floor. Youre going to attempt to pull the bar FAST from the floor generating power from your hips, even though it will look and feel NOTHING like fast. As the bar passes your knees, drive your hips to the bar ... Hit the top and drop. Rinse, and repeat 2-4 more times ... NOT 21, 15 or 9 times. REGRESSIONS: You can easily regress the deadlift using either (2) Kettlebells or even just (1) Kettlebell.
