PETER MILES. For many from that era, Peter Miles was the greatest driver ever to get behind the wheel of a Banger. If youre too young to remember, PIKEY Miles terrorised the PRI circuits with his expolits against the AHERN RAT pack. In those days, the rift between Spedeworth and PRI was far greater than ever, and it was just not on that any driver from either promotion raced on thier rivals tracks. ...At one Wimbledon meeting, all that was to change.- .....only Spedeworth didnt know about it till afterwards! The Banger heats had gone off without major incedent and the final got underway. The A60 of GRAHAM HEAP had miraculously transformed from an also-ran into a flyer as it was power slided around the shale , hooking each car out as it went. The word in the crowd amongst the big S supporters was that it was non other than MICK DUFFY COLLARD at the wheel. However, those thoughts changed when the car turned around and proceeded to race at full speed against the flow! Cars scattered in all directions as Peter flicked thier tales as they passed, in spectacular fashion- it had to be seen to be believed! Spedeworth officials tried in vain to black flag the errant A60, but lap after lap it carried on. Then. It stopped. Opposite the starters rostrum, the driver climbed out, raced across the track, leaped up the rostrum stairs, grabbed the black flag, and then proceeded to break it in half over the head of the luckless starter! The crowd went wild! But So did Spedeworth! Who was this driver? How dare he! After the meeting and things had calmed down! the A60 was spotted perched aboard the MILES maroon and black TK Bedford and in the foyer of the Grandstand stood little Peter strutting about, with his number-one henchman, mafia team mate JOHN DILL (PRI 322) at his side, inviting anyone witha grievence to sort them out! DILL was built like the proverbial brick ....house and no one was gong to pick a fight with these two! And so it was that PETER MILES was banned for life from all Spedeworth tracks and he wasnt even registered with them! Its hard to condone such behavior, but that night the Spedeworth supporters were treated to the driving brilliance of one of the best Banger pilots ever.
