PHC for Rachael Collins - let me know what you think guys :3 The sun was setting on another uneventful day, the last of the sunlight shimmering over her long brown hair. She lifted one perfectly-curved eyebrow as she looked out at the sinking sun, as though daring something to happen before the days end. She sighed as the last of the sunlight disappeared. Turning away from the window she glimpsed a movement within the room causing her to let out a small sound of surprise. “Oh Severus it’s only you,” she sighed with relief, one hand clutching at her heart. “You frightened me half to death.” He walked majestically out of the shadows, a small smile playing on his lips. “It’s our turn to patrol the corridors tonight Rachael. Or were you so busy you’d forgotten?” he askd, inclining his hair towards the sketch she’d been working on earlier that evening. She flushed a little and rushed to put the drawing out of sight. “I- no I didn’t forget,” she sniffed. ‘I never forget’ she thought wistfully. His small black eyes met her brown ones and gazed into them with such intensity that she could feel the world melting around her. Nothing mattered anymore but her and him. “Shall we go then?” he asked , abruptly breaking the spell. “I, yes we should go yes.” She answered, regaining the use of her wits. He held the door open for her as they walked out into the dark corridor. She could feel every fibre of the space between them. It felt like an electic current was coursing through her body, feeling every movement of his as though it was her own. As they turned to walk down the charms corridor Rachael let out a small scream. She stared at the wall ahead, eyes bulging, fear enveloping every part of her body, paralysing her to the spot. Snape jumped around at the scream, looking around wildly for the danger. She saw him realised what it was as a smirk spread across his face. He looked at her incredulously. “So,” he began, “you’re afraid of spiders.” He laughed as he walked towards the spider to remove it and cast it out of the window. He turned around, the stupid smirk still on his face. She stood up giving him her fiercest look and stalking past him down the corridor. He soon caught up to her and grabbed her arm, spinning her around to face him. He looked intensely into her sinister glare, not looking as nearly as scared as her students normally did. “Professor Collins you have to be one of the most ridiculous people I have ever met. You look as though nothing could frighten you, yet here you are - afraid of a little spider.” “Don’t you have any irrational fears Snape?” “Don’t we all?” he amended. His gaze melted into hers. They drew closer together as it intensified, their lips almost meeting. They heard a crash which brought them crashing back to reality. Jumping apart they couldn’t meet each other’s gaze. “I think someone should investigate that racket,” he mumbled. “I’ll uh see you same time tomorrow yes? Good. Goodnight Professor.” He turned on the spot and walked away without a backwards glance before she’d even had time to register what had happened. She slowly turned and started the journey back to her room. Whilst walking she went over the events of the evening in her mind, going over his actions and responses in excruciating detail. As she walked through her door she felt something furry brush against her legs. She looked and allowed a small smile, picking up her tabby cat in one hand. She scratched his/her ears and then dropped him in her arm-chair. He/She meow’d softly. “It’s nice to see you too Erik,” she replied. She proceeded to put on her favourite song ‘The music of the night’ as she got ready to bed. Staring at her face in the mirror she studied her feline features closely. Both the slight curve of her nose, which she did not appreciate, and the shape of her domineering eyebrows gave her that sinister look she endeared and managed to make her look almost feline. Still thinking about earlier Rachael got into bed, snuggling closely with her little Erik. She saw him on the opposite side of the bank, calling her name. She tried to call back but found she had no voice. As she tried the harder to reach him the further she found herself from him. Rachael woke up abruptly covered in beads of sweat breathing heavily. Erik had already gone for the day she saw. As she regained herself and began to realise it was just a dream she lifted herself out of bed to start the events of the day. Her first year class were as rowdy as ever during her lesson, the excitement of the weekend beguiling them. Her third years were less trouble, though paid about the same amount of attention as the previous lot. She was just rounding off her lecture on the Goblin rebellions of the 16th century when the bell rang for lunch. She crumpled in her chair, face in her hands, as she tried to eradicate all thoughts of him from her mind. Try as though she might her thoughts revolved around Severus Snape for the rest of the day. The day seemed to draw painfully slowly to a close, as she found herself as eager for the day to be over as her classes seemed to be. During dinner she tried to pay attention to what she was eating but the events of the night were too far-forward in her mind to eat much. She felt like a love-struck teenager. After eating about two bites of whatever it is she had Rachael left the Great Hall for her rooms. Whilst she was walking up the stairs in the Entrance hall she heard her name softly called. She whirled around and saw him staring at her. His hand beckoned her towards him and her body followed suit. He took her down the stone steps to the dungeons, all the way to his office. As soon as she was through the door he closed the door behind her. She turned towards him meeting his stare. They stood there for what felt like an age, gazing into each other’s eyes. He moved towards her and was suddenly upon her. She felt his lips upon hers, fitting around one another’s as though they were part of one that had finally been reunited. All the worries in the world were gone; all the problems seemed irrelevant now. As they broke apart he looked down and smiled at her. She couldn’t help her own grin spread over her face as she realised she’d just gotten the answer to her questions. He took both her hands in his and opened his mouth several times to say something. “What is it?” She asked. “I just never thought I could feel this way about anyone. I thought after Lily there would be no-one. But then I found you. You beautiful, intelligent amazing woman I never thought even existed. Lily was everything to me, and she will always have a place in my heart. Which is why I don’t really understand this but I don’t want to. I love you Rachael.” “I love you too Severus.” ~ ღ JustAnotherPrincess ღ
