PK: A movie which is supposed to be conveying a message of secularism and tolerance but which progresses to mildly communal in the first half to openly communal in the end. The points which come to ones mind after seeing this movie are: 1) 99% of the movie is about fake Swamis to take peoples gullibility for granted. I would be one of the first to agree with this but they could have also shown about how Christian Fathers fool people claiming to discover cures for AIDS and blindness and Mullahs who preach against the kafir, 2) The entire theme of the movie is about degenerating Idol worship with pictures of Krishna or Rama being used in rather offensive situations (for example, pasting a picture of Krishna on the cheek to avoid being slapped). The fact of the matter is Idol Worship has been practiced in India for centuries as it is believed in Hinduism that God is capable of taking any form and there is a Godly presence to everything created by Him. So why should such a practice be denigrated when it does no harm to anyone and it is a personal choice of the devotee to worship in anyway he likes? 3)It would be natural for any non-Hindu (lets say a foreigner) watching this film to assume that Hinduism is all about fake and blind beliefs, fake religious swamis, blind beliefs in idol worship etc. when it wouldnt be so obvious that only in a tolerant country like India can you make such a movie and get away with it. Make a similar movie in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia or even some of the so-called developed European countries and by now the actors, producers and directors would have received a dozen death threats crying BLASPHEMY!! I sincerely hope Bollywood conveys the message of secularism and tolerance on a more equitable level in the next movie. (PS: Im not even getting into the romantic relationship with the Pakistani.) Conversation with a friend: Friend: PK is a mast movie yaar. Must watch. Me: What is it about? I heard it makes fun of religions. Friend: It is actually full of comedy but yeah it show how religions are fraud and how religious heads cheat people, take them for granted. Me: Good. We must expose religious fallacies and promote science. Friend: Such great acting dude. I want to watch again. Me: Nice. Which religions did they expose in the movie? Did they show how Quran is being misinterpreted by millions around the world to justify terrorism in the name of Jihad? Friend: No Me: Ok. Did they show how Christian missionaries are converting millions of Indians forcefully or through freebies and take them for granted? Friend: No. Me: Means, the movie exposed only Hinduism, mocked at Idol Worshipers and portrayed like as if all Hindus are fools? Friend: hmmm. Not really, but yeah. Now that I think of it, I wonder why the entire movie was just against Hinduism and no other religion. Me: So, what do you think the movie is really? Can you take a deep breath, think and tell in 1 line? Friend: It is a hilarious Anti-Hindu movie with great acting. Me: Thanks for your review. #Copied
