PLEASE DONT SHOP AT WALMART! If you shop at Walmart, your money does not benefit our community. No new living wage jobs are created at Walmart, in fact having a Walmart in your community usually costs the community money. Many small businesses are forced to close, they just cant compete with the huge buying power of Walmart. Then when they have closed, Walmart raises prices. It is anti-competitive. Many or most of the products you buy at Walmart are imported from countries that have fewer worker protection laws than we should be allowing for products imported into our country. Think of the safety issues for the workers in the Indian plants where they had no egress as the building burned. When your kids are playing with their plastic third world toys, think of those little children put to work for long hours in unsafe conditions, losing their childhood in order to save your family a few dollars. Think of the pet treats and pet food that have been imported and have killed our pets. As the big annual support Walmart holiday (it used to be called Christmas) is approaching, think of shopping at locally owned businesses and sharing handmade items and services rather than cheap plastic items made by workers that are little more than slaves. Most of all, if you know of a Walmart store that is coming to your area, organize to STOP them. All of them. We have 3 here in the TCs. How many small businesses could have been supported by the dollars we spend there?
