PLEASE READ AND TAKE ACTION TONIGHT! Moreland Council has taken the unprecedented action of mounting a legal challenge to the - Linking Melbourne Authoritys abuse of/deficit in appropriate civic consultation in the $8bn x 3 years to come East West Link debacle. If successful, this challenge will delay the signing of contracts until after the Vic State election, by which time it is assumed Labor will win and the EWL quashed. JOIN with me to urge Moonee Valley and all affected Councils to JOIN TOGETHER to resist this expensive folley of a doomed and unelected premier. Ted Bailieu did NOT put this project to the Vic electorate, it was not endorsed by State Liberals at the last election. We did NOT vote for Napthine or the EWL. PLEASE email MOONEE VALLEY councillors TONIGHT as the deadline for them and other parties is COB tomorrow Monday 21 July 2014. A copy of my email is supplied if you wish to use or adapt. MOONEE VALLEY email addresses: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; Narelle Sharpe ; [email protected]; [email protected] Dear Councillors ALL affected city councils (potentially all councils of Melbourne) MUST act as one in challenging the process which has informed the instantiation of EWL. The outcome to the current situation is critical in setting an indelible course in Melbournes civic destiny and infrastructure priorities, particularly vis. meeting public versus private transport and economic needs, and pursuing this with proper and appropriate civic-centred processes. The outcome will affect generations to come. Public money must serve the public good. This is our money – use it wisely. Overwhelming moral authority in this issue now lies with those questioning and confronting both the process and outcome of the LMA/state Liberal EWL agenda, pursued by what is now an almost certainly doomed state government, led and promoted by an unelected Dr Denis Napthine. This project was NOT endorsed by State Liberals at the time of the last State election. Victorian Liberals under Ted Bailieu did NOT offer this project to the people of Victoria. There is NO MORAL OR POLITICAL MANDATE for EWL. Due process, transparency, accountability, collaboration, consultation and civic-mindedness are the hallmarks of a sophisticated and responsible polis, in which Melbourne has, in the past, been a national leader. In stark contrast, the FUNDAMENTALLY FLAWED PROCESS leading to the instantiation of the LMA EWL agenda is nothing short of civic vandalism at its most gob-smacking. If civic representatives paid by the public purse do not take a stand in the name of the public good they seek to serve, it is foreseeable that non-elected grass roots organisations and individuals will be forced to into positions of escalating civil disobedience due to the increasingly perceived unchecked and tyrannous moral vacuum. Moreover, the generation represented by those currently in Local, State and Federal power appear to be alarmingly naïve to the growing tide of social media antagonism, both in respect to this project, and the political status quo that appears to either endorse, or fail to resist, it. If I can assist in any way to support the legal challenge now bravely, and I trust not singly, pursued by Moreland Council, please do not hesitate to contact me. AS A MATTER OF CIVIC, MORAL AND LEGAL URGENCY I ask, indeed plead, that Moonee Valley join this impending charge.
