PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR LEGISLATOR!!!!!! Senator __________ It is imperative that we stop Common Core State Standards(CCSS) aka Alabama College and Career Ready Standards(ACCRS). Senator Scott Beason needs your support to co-sponsor a bill he is to present this week to put a halt to these standards. A few points to choose from when you are making your position known: --they are not field tested --standards adopted in Nov. 2010 by a majority vote of our ALBOE--they were not even written in final form until June 2010. -despite what you are being told , these standards will not produce a better educated individual ready to compete in the 21st century workforce because they lack rigor and even the quality of many of our previous standards -design of standards teaching techniques/approaches are developmentally inappropriate to the level of the childs cognitive abilities i.e. asks a child to perform tasks which delay development of other critically essential, foundational sections of the brain which need to be activated first so as to produce a childs increasing ability to do more complex tasks --removes parental control of education from the local level--in requesting RttT (race to the top federal 2009 stimulus funds) money and obtaining a waiver from NCLB, Alabama assured the USDOE that we would follow the copyrighted standards produced by the NGA/CCSSO - National Governors Association and Council of Chief State School Officers. Remember even though we did not get the RttT money, we did state in our application that we would follow these standards which had yet to be written in final form . --Despite what Dr. Bice says, the ACCRS are the Common Core and the tests--of which there will be many-will be based only on the Common Core Standards --Yes it is true, increasing amounts of personal data will be collected on the student partially to determine what track of classes he/she will be placed into (starting in @ third grade). Also this personal data will be used for the purpose of determining what types of educational and recreational products ( especially gaming and video) to produce and thus increase their, the publishers bottom line. --Education IS the hot commodity and set to make @7 trillion dollars in the next few years and, yes, the child IS the human capital. Alabama can, using flexibility in educational planning and increased local control and responsibility, produce educated productive citizens who will meet our states workforce needs. PLEASE C0-SPONSOR SENATOR BEASONS ANTI-COMMON CORE LEGISLATION!! Thank you
