My response to a post from Neil Young coming west while on his bus... A fantastic musician with meaningful music over the years... But hes being used on this one (raising $ for a First Nations legal defense fund re an oilsands dispute)... But Im sure hell sell some tunes on iTunes as a result. I am a big fan of meaningful music, Mr. Young... Yours and others... And did enjoy learning of the good wok you do for that school for kids with special needs but on the oilsands you are misled... A) First Nations people can and should pay their own legal bills, just like everyone. They are not always oppressed or downtrodden... Far from it, often. B) The tar sands have been oozing oil into the rivers and soils since long before they were discovered. It is easy to look up... Documented by early geologists and others in early days of the 20th century. C) The wheels on your bus, your electric car, the plastic picks you use? The soles of your shoes? All come from oil... And better ours in Canada, hopefully, than from somewhere with minimal environmental regulations and poor human rights records. Are the oilsands perfect? No... But we ALL benefit. And, as an aside, the treaties were signed and irrevocably surrendered most lands in exchange for benefits such as school and medical care in perpetuity.
