PLEASE take 60 seconds to read this :) Last Friday the vendors at the Antelope Valley Winery farmers market received an email from the winery owner letting us know that beginning Saturday, September 20 a representative from Grace Resources in Lancaster would be stopping by to pick up any items that the vendors may wish to donate at the end of the market (no pressure, just anything we might have leftover). I immediately thought that this was a wonderful idea and wondered to myself why I had not brought this idea up long ago. A few years ago while visiting the farmers market at the community college in Honolulu; we met Vivian Chau, she is the founder of G.I.F.T. Give It Fresh Daily, her charitable organization collects and donates over 1,000 pounds of fresh, locally grown, organic & conventionally grown food to the needy in her city every week (see her video below). Her idea of collecting fresh food donations at the farmers market is genius! Many people participate in canned food drives every year, but what about donating fresh, locally produced food? Well here is our chance! Holland Ranch will be participating by making weekly donations at the end of the market day. If you would like to BOOST our weekly donations and help support Antelope Valley residents in need while also supporting local farmers & food producers we will have a donation box located at our stand; you make a market purchase from us or any other vendor or bring extra produce you may have grown and place it in our donation box. We will add your donations to ours when the representative arrives on Saturday afternoon... everybody wins! Please share!
