PLENITUDE Each dawn I lie awake, Two roads before me I may take. The first road is called Lackitude, Dark is its path and dismal its mood. Traveling on it all things I do track, Through my own bitter eyes of judgment and lack. All things fall short on this low road of shame, Every aspect of life is infected with blame. The cracks on creation never seem to be sealed, The cracks are projected from our eyes left unhealed. A prisoner’s despair defines our start, From here the battle for joy loses heart. No shortcoming escapes our detection, Children, wives, husbands all fail our inspection. Disappointed moms, disapproving dads, Disheartened daughters and disillusioned lads. Like a killing cancer Lackitude does spread, Into all our souls’ corners it poisons with dread. We no longer see events aright or in light, And our darkened response is to fight or to flight. This fever of flawed seeing, Corrupts our whole being. This road of Lackitude is the road of sure death, So gird up your loins and take a deep breath. The second road is the path we must measure, All its road signs reflect God’s limitless treasure. Plenitude is the name of this way most divine, The journey is pure joy and the view so sublime. Instead of a mindset which causes us to sour, Plenitude focuses on fulness and power. The more we travel the road of Plenitude, Our eyesight improves as well as our mood. We no longer look at things as they seem, Instead we behold with God’s eye of true gleam. The Lord Jesus Christ had God’s sight 20\20, Seeing Abba’s provisions through the eyes of pure plenty. His mind never wandered, diverted or doubted, His hope never squandered, perverted or routed. The appearance of things Jesus judged not, The surface of things to Him was mere rot. Instead, Jesus saw the evidence of things not seen, His Father’s will to all goodness He did continually glean. What Christ saw in each and every man, Was His Father’s image and ultimate plan. Lost and scattered sheep were all that He saw, As God’s good shepherd, Christ did rescue them all. Jesus the shepherd gave His life for the fold, The Cross that He bore was the rescue foretold. Three days in the grave caused many to doubt, But the power of love brought the ultimate rout. Death and deception no longer ran free, Christ has created a greater reality. After He ascended the best news arrived, At Pentecost’s coming Christ in us now did reside. No longer must men walk the Lackitude road, Heavy laden with oppression and burdensome load. The sunny side has become a street, To this place of joy we must direct our feet. Plenitude sees God’s provisions as “always already,” This central resolve keeps us strong and ever steady. Whereas Lackitude moans “never good enough,” Plenitude pulls diamonds from the rough. Adam and Eve in Plenitude did reign, Till the serpent did bite them with Lackitude’s fang. Before the bite, “un”self-aware in their bliss, They did walk in God’s garden and experience His kiss. In naked submission they knew not their own will, But then came the serpent with a most bitter pill. The lie came from Satan that something was wrong, God was hiding something to them which belonged. The serpent beguiled with his continual hissing, Every lie that came forth described what was missing. Did God truly say? Don’t you want to be wise? Take of this fruit and open your eyes. Then you will know what it’s like to be God, Instead of mere humans, clueless and odd. The couple did eat the forbidden fruit of desire, Their hearts were now hardened by the father of liars. The couple now feared the God who gave them life, Where once they had full blessing, they now only had strife. Afraid, ashamed and now self-aware, They hid behind fig leaves of pride and despair. Their only defense to their first degree sin, Was to point the finger elsewhere again and again. The man blamed the woman whom God did provide, While the woman blamed the snake with Satan inside. Neither human stepped up to the plate, To repent of their evil and admit their mistake. This then is how the curse began, Its poison now spread in every woman and man. Then and now, an accusation of God’s lack, Does start each and every spiritual attack. If you would prepare well for Lackitude’s defeat, Then let your mind only the noble, virtuous and praiseworthy keep. Mark it well, my beloved, the option is yours, Two roads confront you and both have their doors. If you set your mind on the Lackitude road, Its door will slam shut on you while its curses unfold. But if you set your mind on Plenitude’s street, Its door will fly open and freedom you’ll greet. So trust not your thoughts til you establish their source, Don’t taste any flavor unless it’s on Plenitude’s course. Every new word we chew with our minds, Leads to the next thought and either looses or binds. The “now” determines the next, So “Plenitude Now!” must be your text. Toward Lackitude be in constant denial, Let not one word, thought or emotion put you on trial. For the words which we speak reveal our true heart, And our true heart is where both roads get their start. Out of our heart-abundance our mouth always speaks, As the words we release reveal one of the two streets. Use words of life if you want to live, Evict words of death and be quick to forgive. We must learn to believe only the Lord’s good reports, For Plenitude always trumps what Lackitude distorts. All will be well, all will be well, Christ has “always already” defeated death and all Hell.
