PLIGHT OF THE NORTHEAST PEOPLE: Landed and stuck in Guwahati, the biggest city in the Northeast. It is part of India (or is it?) I was going to attend the wedding of my cousins son, the first marriage in the family that is taking place tomorrow in the morning. Because of chrismas rush during this period, I had to book the air ticket in Jet Airways (JetConnect) one month in advance. The flight from Delhi was delayed by 1 hr 35 minutes. We left Delhi at about 11:30 AM.The flight route is Delhi-Guwahati-Aizawl. As per schedule, I am to reach Aizawl at 2:05 pm. In Delhi we were issued two boarding passes, one for Delhi to Guwahati and the other for Guwahati to Aizawl. Delhi to Guwahati takes two to two and half hours. Though the scheduled departure from Gh to Azl was 12:55pm, we were assured by the Airline that the connecting flight to Aizawl will wait us at Guwahati and there would be no problem, so we boarded. Our luggages were also booked from Delhi to Aizawl. When we reached Guwahati at around 1:45 pm, we were told that the flight to Aizawl already left. The airline officials were kind enough, that is what they thought, to offer us to find seats for Silchar or Aizawl the next day. Silchar to Aizawl takes seven hours by road. Guwahati to Aizawl takes 15 hrs by road. There is no raiway connectivity to Aizawl from any part of the country. There is no assurance that we get seats for flight to Aizawl. I am thankful that I was given the seat to Aizawl, the next day (after identifying myself, what to do?). What about the family with small children? I do not want to think about it! As for myself, even if I can go tomorrow by flight, I will be reaching Aizawl at about 4pm.by that the purpose for which I go will be all over. Is this achhe din? Some time one wonders whether the Norteast is part of India! This type of incidents took place many times, will any media bother to report about those incidents?
