PLOT AGAINST RIBADU THICKENS Aggrieved members of the Adamawa state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have adopted strategies to ensure Mallam Nuhu Ribadu fails at the polls in February 2015 if his candidature is not reversed by the national leadership of the party. About two weeks ago Mallam Ribadu emerged as the PDP governorship candidate for Adamawa state at a controversial primary that was conducted in Abuja. According to a chieftain of Adamawa PDP, who spoke on condition of anonymity, members of Adamawa PDP are unhappy with the PDP national chairman, Adamu Muazu and Principal Secretary to the President, Hassan Tukur who they alleged foisted his “Fulani brother” on them at the expense of those that laboured to build the party in the state. He said Muazu breached the approved guidelines for the conduct of the primaries by relocating the venue for the primaries to Abuja and tampering with the list of delegates in favour of the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. The PDP chieftain cited pages 6, 7 and 8 of the PDP Electoral Guidelines for Primary Election 2014 approved by the National Executive Committee, NEC, which made it mandatory for all primary elections to be held in their respective constituencies. “We are adopting two prong approaches to ensure Nuhu Ribadu does not win the governorship in Adamawa state if the leaders of the party in Abuja insist on imposing him on us. “First, we have the legal option and we have already approached the court to nullify his illegal primary that took place in Abuja and stop him from parading himself as the governorship candidate of our party. He said in an event they are unable to secure court order to nullify the primaries that threw up Ribadu, “we shall be left with no choice than to mobilise our members vote against him during the governorship election next year.” When reminded that the Adamawa governorship primary was moved to Abuja for security reasons, he said the alibi is not tenable as PDP conducted its State House of Assembly
